Who is on the Canelo vs Jacobs undercard?

CANELO will put his middleweight belts on the line on Saturday, May 5.

Kicking off the card is Sadam Ali, with the 'World Kid' looking to get himself back into title contention following defeat to Jaime Munguia last May.

Unbeaten Vergil Ortiz Jr continues his promising rise up the super lightweight ranks with a battle against Mauricio Herrera, whilst the first title fight of the evening pits Lamont Roach against the tough Jonathan Oquendo.

That bout will decide the WBO international super featherweight crown, before John Ryder and Bilal Akkawy go head-to-hed for the interim WBA super-middlweight crown.

In his last time in the ring back in December, Alvarez ventured up to super middleweight and pulverized Rocky Fielding in three 

rounds to capture the WBA (regular) championship. Before then, Alvarez fought in September at 160 pounds, defeating Gennady 

Golovkin by majority decision in a career-defining rematch to capture the WBA (super) and WBC middleweight belts.

Jacobs has rebounded nicely since he lost the WBA title to Golovkin in March 2017 - a very narrow decision that many boxing 

pundits felt the "Miracle Man" won. He's won three straight bouts since then, with the highlight being his split-decision win over 

Sergiy Derevyanchenko in October to win the IBF belt and become a two-time middleweight champion.

There is one intriguing prop bet to watch out for as well: Jacobs winning by decision. Current odds have Jacobs taking Alvarez the 

distance and getting the nod on the judges' scorecards at +500. Odds are slowly decreasing, so if you feel the native of Brooklyn, 

New York, has a chance winning by that method, bet on it immediately.

Alvarez has faced Golovkin twice and Floyd Mayweather Jr., but the growing sentiment among many in the sport is Jacobs will be 

the stiffest test to date for the 28-year-old because he possesses both the footwork and boxing skills, combined with the power. The 

moment won't be too big for Jacobs. He took on Golovkin in his home away from home at Madison Square Garden, where he got 

knocked down early on, but dusted himself off and nearly walked out as the unified middleweight champion. Now, Jacobs is stepping 

into what has become Alvarez's house at the T-Mobile Arena, where he'll be competing for the fifth time in three years.

If Jacobs can mix it up and fight as he did against Golovkin, the 32-year-old has a fantastic shot.

For Alvarez, he needs to fight a complete 12 rounds. Looking at the two Golovkin bouts: Their first fight in September 2017 had 

Alvarez coming out strong in the first two rounds, before Golovkin took control in the middle of the fight and Alvarez stormed back in 

rounds 10-12. Things were different in the rematch when Alvarez came out the aggressor in the first half of the fight and slowed down 

in the latter half.

Against Jacobs, Alvarez isn't going to get breaks as he did with Golovkin. Jacobs is going to test Alvarez's conditioning by staying in 

Alvarez's face and making him work for everything. Alvarez can't take rounds off - Jacobs will make sure of that. If Alvarez can get 

inside, then he can start pounding his vaunted left hand into Jacobs' body and wear him down that way.

It's so hard to pick a winner in this fight. Alvarez and Jacobs are incredibly talented. Facing the biggest name in the sport is the match 

Jacobs has been looking for the last two years. He's not going to be content trying to outbox Alvarez. He's going to work to prove he 

truly is the best middleweight in the world.

But it's hard to pick against Alvarez because since his only career loss to Mayweather in September 2013, he has only upped his 

fighting game. Until someone proves they can outclass Alvarez for the majority of a fight, I will go with Alvarez.

That being said, it's still worth placing a wager on Jacobs being able to get a decision. The odds are too good to pass up to not put a 

bet on someone with Jacobs' talent. He has the skills to get the job done and escape "Sin City" with two more belts.
